WHAT IS THE COMPRESION THERAPY PEA POD?

The Pea Pod is a comforting tool for your student or child to use for much needed pressure therapy and can assist in helping to provide a feeling of being grounded and in control. It is like a giant hug applying pressure all over the body helping to keep your child calm and relaxed. The Pea Pod is a very effective support tool for autism and would be ideal in a sensory room or corner.

This resource provides deep touch pressure (DTP) in the form of firm tactile sensory input or proprioceptive input to the whole body.  Children and adults alike are finding deep touch pressure therapy to be helpful to assist in self-regulation.

Who Can benefit from using the Pea Pod?

People who benefit the most from DTP received from using the Pea Pod include those diagnosed with:

How to use the Pea Pod

• Peapods are used for children to sit or lie in whenever they need to find a sense of calm or to regulate their emotions. It provides deep pressure across the body for a cocooned, calming feeling. Children can read, watch TV or simply enjoy the deep and soothing pressure of the Pea Pod for hours.
• Some children like to gently rock from side-to-side for a cocooning calm. Most children can get in the pod themselves in order to apply deep, even pressure to their bodies and sensory systems.

Specifications:

The Sensory Pea Pod internal measurements are 150cm L x 70cm W x 30cm D. Available only in black.

Made from strong vinyl with tough-welded seams for added strength. The velvety surface is made from flocked vinyl. The surface is also washable with a damp cloth.

An electric inflator with a nozzle to inflate the chambers of the pod is included.

Adult supervision highly recommended. To prevent accidental puncturing, do not jump in or on the Pea Pods and keep all sharp objects from contacting the surface.

Recommended for use by one child at a time so as not to exceed the limits of the pod which may cause it to rupture and deflate.
